Who we are
Edge Energy Ltd was founded in 2009 by Tom Searight and Derek Hayes, senior executive Engineering Managers at GE Sondex for over 15 years. They were involved in the development of many seminal products including the Multifinger Caliper, the Capacitance Array Tool, the Mule Downhole Tractor, the Electric Pipe Cutter, the Ultralink Telemetry and the Ultrawire Bus. Edge Energy was set up to bring its own unique technology to the market as well as to provide fast track contract engineering services.

Tom Searight, Managing Director, has over 25 years experience working in the Oil & Gas industry. From 2004 to 2007 he was Director of Technology for Sondex Canada and has since been developing cutting-edge downhole tools including the Edge Wireline Telemetry system, the highest bandwidth data transmission system commercially available in the industry. Tom has a background in mechanical engineering and has developed the broad skill set required to deliver complex electro-mechanical tools to the industry.
Danny Broughton, Business Development, has spent over 25 years in the Oil & Gas industry, initially as a logging engineer with Schlumberger working in the UK North Sea. In the latter part of his career, Danny has moved in more commercially focused roles with an emphasis on the marketing and commercialisation of new downhole technology. He was Sales and Marketing Director at Sondex and Business Development Director at Falcon OFS, giving him a strong global insight into the logging industry both from a products and services perspective.
Edge Energy has pulled together and created a strong team of highly-skilled individuals to broaden and support the founders' skill sets, enabling us to deliver turnkey projects and products quickly and efficiently with the minimum of external resource.
The Team
Our Mechanical Design team have a broad range of skills including modelling, assemblies, drawing, motion and FEA. We have expertise in a range of materials and machining techniques specific to the downhole market and we have inspection processes to match the majors.
Our Senior Electronics team have decades of experience in the electronics industry and have worked for companies such as Schlumberger. Their expertise includes design of high-temperature and high-pressure tools for the oil & gas industry, including an ultrasound imaging system for wellbore imaging, a 16 GiB solid-state drive for downhole data collection, a pipe cutter for cutting casing or drill pipe and a high-voltage power supply unit for wireline tools.
Our Embedded Software team also have several decades experience in the industry and have made major contributions in the design and implementation of signal processing on a variety of technologies inside and outside Oil & Gas. They have been involved with groundbreaking projects as diverse as Digital Terrestrial Television and parallel DSP architecture and programming techniques.
