Edge Wireline Telemetry
Our field-proven high-speed data transmission system enables the deployment of multiple high-resolution sensors downhole. It provides reliable communications over a wide range of wireline cables at rates up to 429 kb/s. The system comprises a downhole Wireline Telemetry Sonde (WTS) and a surface Wireline Telemetry Panel (WTP). The WTS is available housed in a range of standard ODs or unhoused for integration into your existing tools. The WTP is a standard 1U 19 inch rack unit.

The WTS is the downhole sonde that interfaces between the telemetry and the tool bus, containing the modem and bus power supply. The half duplex module sends tool data uphole and commands down to the tools. It also converts wireline power to provide low voltage (30 V) power to the tools on the bus and provides diagnostic data from integrated sensors. It has a 1,000 V throughput capability at full data rate which allows the WTS to be used in toolstrings that include high-powered tools with motors and hydraulic systems such as tractors and cutters. Until now these tools were considered challenging for telemetry systems due to electrical noise and resultant reduced data rates.
Well Integrity - allows faster logging while maintaining vertical resolution
High Robustness - secure data capture in less than optimal environments
Video - fast updates even at high temperatures
New tool designs - we actively work with companies to enable them to deploy novel sensors in live wells
Applications in the field include:
The WTP is a 1U 19 inch rack unit that decodes the Edge telemetry signal on the wireline, transferring data to and from PC-based logging systems via a USB cable. The system fully supports Warrior as well as other bespoke acquisition systems.
Production Logging - high resolution array and spectral logging sensors
A vital part of any high-speed logging platform, the Edge tool bus is capable of data rates of 4 Mb/s. The bus operates on a multi-pin connection using the RS485 base and is capable of supporting any number of sensors of complex tool strings. A mono-pin variant is available. Existing legacy tools can be easily upgraded to the Edge bus using a small board. A highly accurate internal clock allows for class-leading tool sample synchronisation. It has highly configurable sample regimes including synchronous, offset and single-timed samples for optimum data capture.
